Chromatica Performs in Santa Fe

In collaboration with Sangre de Cristo Chorale

Saturday January 17th

First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe

Santa Fe, NM

In January 2026, Chromatica Chorale traveled to Santa Fe, New Mexico for a rare and deeply meaningful collaboration with the Sangre de Cristo Chorale. Together, the two ensembles performed Transfigurations — the six-movement choral work by Christopher Tin that Chromatica had premiered less than two years earlier — at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe.

The collaboration came about through Dan Peterson, a former Chromatica member who had commissioned the original world premiere of Transfigurations in memory of his late wife Maria. After moving to Santa Fe, Dan joined the Sangre de Cristo Chorale, carrying the music and its story with him. His presence in both choirs made this collaboration not only possible but deeply personal — a chance for the piece he commissioned to live again in a new community, performed by singers from both chapters of his life.

Transfigurations, a six-movement work with music by two-time Grammy winner Christopher Tin and lyrics by Charles Anthony Silvestri, explores themes of metamorphosis — life transforming into light, dust, the divine, and eternity. Originally premiered by Chromatica in April 2024, the work was now given new life through the combined voices of two choirs performing it together for the first time.

The experience of the two choirs coming together was unforgettable. Chromatica's singers made the journey to Santa Fe, where they rehearsed side by side with the Sangre de Cristo Chorale in the days leading up to the performance. What began as two separate ensembles learning each other's habits and sound quickly became a single choir, bound together by the music and by the shared sense of purpose that Dan's story provided.

The Santa Fe performance stands as one of the most meaningful concerts in Chromatica's history. Transfigurations, born from an act of remembrance and love, continues to live beyond its premiere — not as a museum piece but as a living work that grows richer each time it is shared. For both choirs, the collaboration was a reminder that music at its best doesn't just connect notes on a page. It connects people.
